James Howard, DVM, MS, DACVS-SA

James Howard DVM, MS, DACVS-SA is a board-certified small animal surgeon. Dr. Howard earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Hillsdale College and then went on to earn his veterinary degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Following graduation, he completed a one-year rotating medicine and surgery internship at The University of Tennessee. He then returned to The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center and completed a combined three-year surgical residency and Masters of Science degree in Comparative Veterinary Medicine.

Following his residency, he completed a clinical instructorship and remained on staff as a clinical surgeon at The Ohio State University.

Dr. Howard has experience in many aspects of veterinary surgery including soft tissue, orthopedics, research, and education. He has authored and co-authored scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters covering various topics. Some of his research included clinical applications of novel diagnostics techniques, orthopedic diseases, hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal diseases, pharmacology, and surgical diagnosis and treatment of endocrinopathies.  He has also presented research and continuing education at local, national, and international conferences.

Dr. Howard enjoys the diversity of veterinary surgery with a specialized interest in complex soft tissue case management. The most rewarding part of his job is owner education and focusing on developing specific treatment options customized to each owner and their pets.
