In May Dr. Eric Miller, DACVO and RVT Chrissy Gilbert participated in free eye examinations for the Columbus Police Department Canine and Mounted Equine Units along with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Canine Unit. The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) along with sponsor Epicur Pharma coordinated their annual ACVO National Service Animal Eye Exam Event during the month of May. For this event veterinary ophthalmologists (animal eye doctors) volunteer to provide free eye health screenings to qualified service animals nationally and even internationally in an effort to give back and recognize the valuable work these animals do for all of us. “Vision and eye health are a necessary and valuable part of the work these animals do and this awesome event provides a platform for us to provide an expert eye exams that they would likely otherwise not get” says Dr. Miller. This year over 250 board certified veterinary ophthalmologists will offer their services. Since its inception the event has provided over 80,000 eye screenings for animals that do all kinds of service work. Dr. Millers noted “Everyone involved recognizes the great service this event provides these most deserving animals.” For more information or to register for next years event go to www.acvoeyeexam.org
