From military aviation to veterinary medicine.
Dr. Dave Mathes earned a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Technology from Ohio University before accepting a commission as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. He attended Naval Flight School in Pensacola, Florida, earned his Naval Aviator Wings, and served on active duty as a pilot and aircraft commander.
In 2016, he transitioned to the reserves and began veterinary school at The Ohio State University. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2020, then entered private practice with a focus on advanced oral surgery.
Dr. Mathes’s surgical focus includes TPLO and orthopedic surgery. Through On the Spot Mobile Specialty and Veterinary Services, he performs elective orthopedic surgery at veterinary practices throughout the greater Columbus area.
His broader experience spans emergency and critical care, emergency surgery, and soft tissue surgery. He also draws on his experience in advanced oral surgery. He enjoys the variety of emergency medicine and surgery, and finds particular reward in helping patients when they need care most.
